Susan Salzman Raab

 

Susan Salzman Raab has been in the book business for more than 25 years. She founded Raab Associates, Inc. in 1986 as the only agency dedicated to promoting and marketing children’s books. Over the years, that has expanded to include other quality products for children and families.

She serves as the Marketing Adviser to the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and, since 1994, has written the bi-monthly “To Market” column for SCBWI’s national publication, The Bulletin. She is also the author of the book, An Author’s Guide to Children’s Book Promotion, now in its tenth edition. A regular speaker at industry conventions, she has also discussed children’s books, marketing and trends in media interviews on TV, radio and with the press.

She regularly reports on the publishing field as a broadcast correspondent, covering children’s books, authors and illustrators for the Teachers for a New Era program at the University of Connecticut and for Kids Public Radio. She’s also been a national correspondent for Recess! Radio, a program that was syndicated nationally to 500 public radio stations. Read More…

Joyce Stein, Account Director

Joyce Stein has spent more than 30 years working for some of the top publishing houses including Crown, Simon & Schuster, Golden Books, Funk & Wagnalls, World Almanac Books, and Vivendi-Universal in various capacities and as well as departments. She found her home in the children’s book industry in 1988 and has held various posts including Publicity Manager and Director of Marketing. She has done both national and local publicity for adult and juvenile authors. Her marketing expertise consists of brand marketing along with development of point-of-purchase displays, catalogs, posters, sell sheets, direct mail brochures, print and radio advertising, as well as event planning and coordination of national conventions and sales meetings. Susanna Reich, Account Services Manager

Susanna Reich has a broad background in children’s books, business, and the arts. She is the author of Painting the Wild Frontier: The Art and Adventures of George Catlin, a Kirkus Best Young Adult Book of 2008, a Booklist Top Ten Arts Book for Youth, and an Association of Booksellers for Children Best Book; Clara Schumann: Piano Virtuoso, a National Council of Teachers of English Orbis Pictus Honor Book, ALA Notable, ALA Best Book for Young Adults, and School Library Journal Best Book of the Year; Jose! Born to Dance, winner of the Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children’s Book Award and an International Latino Book Award; and Penelope Bailey Takes the Stage, a Scripps-Howard Best Book of 2006. Jeanette Larson

Jeanette Larson is a children’s literature and library services consultant and trainer, currently serving as an adjunct professor for Texas Woman’s University. She’s the former Youth Services Manager at Austin Public Library and former Director of Library Development for the Texas State Library where she also served as Manager of Continuing Education and Consulting. Bobbie Combs has 21 years experience in the children’s book industry, including six years as manager of two independent children’s bookstores; eight years at Koen Book Distributors, first as children’s book buyer and founder of Koen Kids! and then as Director of Sales, and six years as a freelance consultant to the industry.
