Q: FEATURE TOPIC: Recommendations for authors and illustrators of books about Africa Consider submitting for the Children’s Africana Book Awards (CABA), http://www.africaaccessreview.org/caba.cfm. The awards are sponsored by Africa Access, which is a non-profit educational association. Awards are given in the categories of Best Book for Young Children and Best Book for Older Readers. Publishers generally make the nomination, but authors and illustrators can as well as long as their book is distributed in the U.S. and Canada. There’s also an excellent review journal on the topic, entitled Sankofa: A Journal of African Children’s and Young Adult Literature, http://jewel.morgan.edu/~english/sankofa, which is published annually and reaches teachers, librarians, researchers, writers, illustrators, editors and publishers. 5:6/08 |
