What We Do

Raab Associates, Inc. provides independent consulting in marketing database systems and analysis. We work with the sole aim of identifying the most effective solution to each marketing and database problem. Because we do not sell any specific product, we are free to consider all options that are available to our clients.

Typical Projects

  • Needs Analysis: Meet with senior management, marketing and systems staff of a major reference publisher to evaluate current marketing systems, identify future requirements, and set the direction for new development efforts.

  • Software Evaluation: Help a provider of market research to replace an expensive, slow, and hard-to-use marketing system with low-cost packaged software that ties together field sales, direct mail and telephone marketing operations and allows continued enhancement by in-house staff.

  • Vendor Selection: For a continuity marketer seeking an outside fulfillment vendor: define requirements, identify qualified vendors, prepare a Request For Proposal, summarize vendor responses, and assist in the final selection process.

  • Technology Overview: Provide the systems group of a large insurance company with information on the types of systems available to meet their requirements. Recommend specific vendors to contact and identify critical issues relating to each vendor.

  • Database Justification: Work with the marketing and systems staff of a telecommunications provider to identify operational and financial impacts and develop the cost justification for installing a centralized marketing database system.

  • Operations Research: Show a card deck mailer how to increase the number of acquired names that are assigned Zip+4 codes, thereby lowering outside list acquisition costs and increasing revenue from house list mailings.

  • Marketing Analysis: Provide a major magazine publisher with detailed analysis of tests for a loyalty program. Assess the results of package and list tests and develop comparative lifetime value projections for alternate courses of action.

    Background

    Raab Associates, Inc. has provided database marketing consulting since 1987. David M. Raab writes a monthly software review column in DM News, publishes the Guide to Database Marketing Systems, and speaks frequently at industry events. He has held senior management positions with firms including The Franklin Mint and Parents Magazine. Other members of the company’s staff have senior operating experience in fulfillment, software evaluation and systems development.
